How does the security deposit work?
What is a credit card hold?
Understanding Credit Card Holds for Your Stay:
At Home Suite Stays we may place a temporary hold on your credit card, known as an "authorization hold," to ensure a smooth experience during your stay. Here's what you need to know:
1. Why the Hold?
- The hold is a precautionary measure to confirm that your credit card has sufficient funds for potential charges related to your stay.
2. Why Not a Debit Card?:
- You are welcome to use a debit card, but just be aware that the hold feature only really works with a credit card. If you use a debit card, the full amount of the security deposit will be withdrawn and then refunded after your stay. If the "hold" needs to be extended then the full total is withdrawn again and there may be a bank delay before the initial hold gets returned to your account.
3. How It Works:
- We'll request your card issuer to reserve a specific amount on your credit limit, but rest assured, no actual charges will be made at this stage.
- This hold is automatically renewed and extended if your stay gets extended.
4. Temporary and Limited:
- During an authorization hold, no funds are transferred from your account to the business. It's simply a temporary hold on a portion of your credit limit to ensure that the funds are available if needed.
- Authorization holds are not reported to credit bureaus. Credit bureaus primarily consider actual transactions and account activities that involve the movement of money, such as purchases and payments.
5. Release of Funds:
- Once your stay is complete, if there is any damages or broken rules we replace the hold with the actual charge. Any unused portion of the hold is promptly released back to your available credit.
6. No Surprises:
- We recommend checking our policies beforehand to understand the hold amount and duration. This way, you can enjoy your stay without any unexpected surprises.
We aim to make your experience seamless, and these holds are a standard industry practice. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out. We look forward to hosting you!
